No, you stop being absurd. It's very common for people to just complete quests and get the rewards without thinking about it. Common enough to be most. Your common is not enough.
|
I added emphasis in your quote to make my post a home-run hit.
It's very common for people to just complete quests, yup. But once they (like you, and me) learn that it's more advantageous to keep a particular quest, then they'll do that instead.
The most common predictable trend, amongst all human beings, is to do X instead of Y if X is more advantageous/profitable. (especially if they don't have to do any work to do X... just leave it in your log... couldn't be easier)
So, most people will keep a farmable quest (if they know it's farmable) because most people do what's most profitable. Just like you and just like me!

I hardly think the majority of GW players keep those quests active.

This is where your logic is at fault. You are generalizing the entire GW community with the GWGuru community. Yes, most people on Guru know which quests to keep so you can farm them, but most people who don't visit forums (which is an overwhelming majority of the population of GW, or at least it used to be when I still played regularly) won't know which quests to keep.

So who was that "somebody"? Because we've got an Anet employee who's said otherwise in this thread.

Or they know, but simply don't care because it's not important to them.

No, because I like playing the game, not farming the game. I play and enjoy the quests, and have completed a significant portion of them I've ever come across. That includes those listed above; and yes, I did know they were farmable.
There are more people playing the game than just farmers; the argument you have is based on the fact that everyone playing farms, which is, in fact, a fallacy.
As far as the update goes.. can't wait! I'm definitely excited to see it.

I really hope these new HM quest don't affect my VQing, I have 27 areas in Prophecies and 16 in Nightfall left, some of the mobs in War in Krtya with 6 players only can be rather RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GOing annoying....

Just to clarify, farming the Requiem for a Dream and A Show of Force was so popular, in fact, that Anet removed Sunspear and Lightbringer titles as counting toward favor. So I'd say that's the very definition of common.

Thanks for the update Stephane. Any chance of already putting up the blog post, so we can do some more reading while we're waiting?

Do you remember when Sunspear/Lightbringer stopped giving favor minutes because so many people maxed on rep weekends that it topped out the counter and rolled it over? Either a lot more people visit Guru than given credit for or they can read the Wikis. It's not like these things are super secret they are right on the page.
Edit: Bah, beaten to it...

I agree, the was majority of players wouldn't hold back handing something in because it could be used to farm.

Sure it common for some players to do that it's still not the majority, believe it or not but most people don't really care for mindless farming.

Guys, I cannot find *any* update notes, there is no login announcement and when I was just at LA, there are no decorations.
What, I need to be a member of a super secret society to see these things?
